Nimrod Castle – The Road to Damascus

A Fortress Above the Apostolic Call

Rising dramatically above the lush Hula Valley, Nimrod Castle commands the ancient trade and military route that connected the Galilee with Damascus. While the castle itself dates to the Crusader and Mamluk periods, the road it watches over is far older — and holds one of the most powerful moments in the Book of Acts.

“As he neared Damascus on his journey, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him.” (Acts 9:3)

It was along this very route that Saul of Tarsus — a Pharisee on a mission to persecute the followers of Jesus — was struck by the voice of Christ. Blinded and humbled, he became Paul the Apostle, the greatest evangelist to the Gentile world.

Standing on the ramparts of Nimrod Castle, one can gaze toward Syria and envision that road — a literal and spiritual bridge between Israel and the nations.

Key features:

  • Crusader-era fortifications and towers
  • Strategic views over the ancient Damascus Road
  • Historical ties to Muslim, Crusader, and Mongol invasions

This is a place of radical transformation — where the persecutor of the Church became its most passionate preacher.
